The Versace Collection
An Avant-garde Collection
“Creativity comes from a conflict of ideas.”
– Donatella Versace
Inspiration and Idea
As the name suggests, this was a Versace inspired project, more specifically, Donatella Versace. It references the common themes of two shows, the Spring 2003 Couture and the Spring 2023 Ready-to-wear show. Donatella describes it as “goth bridal”, neither of which we have really seen the house explore in depth. However, we of course see the same pattern of seductiveness, sexiness, leather, boldness and heavy embellishments.
For the following collection, I wanted to reinstate some of the feelings of the house’s past Couture shows. I also feel like the goth-edgy aesthetic is a new direction the house wants to pursue. This collection is for the individual who is getting married but hates the traditions and cultural norms of marriage. It’s the opposite of marriage, it’s giving the audience and the bride, what they dont’t know they want. It’s edgy, villainous, sexy, dark, deadly, bold and really focuses on, “till death do us part”.
